Full Kitchen Renovation

The original kitchen had good bones and a bad plan. A U-shape that funneled traffic into a single corner, a peninsula that blocked the room from the rest of the house, soffited ceilings that capped the cabinetry low, glazed cream cabinetry with applied molding, and a busy speckled granite that pulled the eye everywhere at once.

We took the room down to the subfloor. The peninsula came out, the soffits came down, and we framed in a proper rectangular island in the center of the space. New gas line for the Wolf range, new water lines for the build-in panel-ready Subzero refrigerator and freezer and the second sink in the island. None of that is visible in the finished room, which is the point.

The cabinetry runs floor to ceiling on the perimeter, white with brushed brass pulls, with glass-front uppers and integrated lighting flanking the range. The island is charcoal with the same hardware, which gives the room a clear center. The custom hood is the focal point of the back wall, with a full-height quartz backsplash behind the range and a pot filler mounted above. Quartz counters throughout, with thick mitered edges and a waterfall leg on one side of the kitchen.

The working details are where the room earns its keep. Farmhouse sink at the perimeter, prep sink in the island, beverage cooler tucked next to the farmhouse sink, microwave drawer in the island. Under-cabinet lighting on its own circuit. Two oversized brass lanterns over the island, scaled to the new ceiling height now that the soffits are gone.
